Yall know my love for finding great hot dogs in Houston (Moontower Inn is one of my favs!) so it should be no surprise that as soon as we found out about The Good Dog we had to stop by for a date. The Good Dog is located in the Houston Heights – one of the most popular areas in Houston. The Heights has such a cool, friendly vibe. There are so many amazing places to eat and enjoy the atmosphere in the area.
The Good Dog serves Texas-made franks on local artisan buns. The Good Dog was recently named Best Hot Dog in Houston by Houston Press & #63 on Alison Cook’s Top 100 Restaurants in Houston. Their menu is curated with a ton of crazy and creative condiments like apple-horseradish slaw, mustard cheese sauce, and bacon braised collards that will surprise your taste buds and keep you coming back for more!
I couldn’t pass up the Benedict Franklin hot dog complete with a fried egg, brown sugar baked ham, mustard cheese sauce and roasted garlic aioli. Caleb ordered the Sloppy Slaw Dog which has apple-horseradish slaw, melted swiss, house whole grain mustard piled on top. They both were absolutely delicious! I was very surprised by the apple-horseradish slaw – typically I am not a slaw kind of girl, but the apples in the slaw were perfect!
We were happy to see Fat Cat Creamery on the menu as a local provider! I love that local Houston businesses help support one another! Caleb went to get a simple scoop of ice cream after downing our hot dogs and came back with a lovely surprise – he picked out the Berry Mascarpone Milkshake. I can’t even begin to explain how yummy this was. You have to try it! The perfect balance of fruit and sweetness.
The Good Dog also serves some great beer and Texas wines. The patio is a great place to sit and relax under the twinkle light with your friends. Be sure to stop by The Good Dog if you are in Houston!
