Jaclyn from Beauty and the Binky!
Like I said last week on Chiara from Pied a Terre’s feature, each Tuesday I will be featuring bloggers, travelers, and every girl boss in-between to share their travel stories, tips, tricks, and inspiration! Get ready because we have some amazing Houston bloggers on deck first!! Rep it Houston! :) I really wanted to start this feature series with my hometown gals because local Houstonians are my predominant following – LOVE the hometown support yall!! I want to show you all the #girlbosses living right here in Houston that are traveling, working, and living without boundaries.
Last Tuesday Jaclyn showed off her style in Think Elysian Boutique’s high-neck beaded top – which was SO cute paired with that striped skirt! Jaclyn is the beauty behind Beauty and the Binky a blog that uniquely shows off how she balances style and being a mom. I love her blog – even though I’m not a mom she has some great style and is so inspiring the way she uplifts ladies to be a community.
Jaclyn’s Must-Have Vacation Pieces from Think Elysian Boutique:
“All would be perfect for any (warm) travel destination! They’re comfortable yet chic & colorful yet mature! They can all be paired with flats/sandals OR wedges/heels and dressed up OR down! Versatility at its best!”
Check out her travel Q&A including awesome tips & travel hacks for plane rides plus where she is headed next below!
Who or what has inspired you to travel?
I’ve been a traveler since I was about 5, so I’d have to say my mom. She drove me to Oregon every year to stay the summer with my grandparents. Around 7, she started sending me by plane (by myself)! I didn’t fly anywhere with my parents until I was 20! We also moved around a lot and even moved between California and Texas a few times. We drove each time, so I’m the ultimate road tripper.
What travel advice do you have for others?
My biggest travel advice for other is find a good airport look (especially if you’re headed somewhere right when you land)! My go-to is a maxi dress or t-shirt dress with oxfords and a cardigan. The soft dresses are comfortable and breathable, the oxford shoes get off and on quickly for security, and a cardigan keeps you warm on the plane but isn’t bulky.
A few other pointers are to keep some kind of wipes in your purse for during/after the plane ride (your face will thank you), fly with wet hair so that it doesn’t get dehydrated and dried out (put it in a braid for some no-heat curls once you’ve landed), and open all your emails before you get on the plane so that you’ll be able to read them in airplane mode!
Do you have any funny memories or silly mishaps while visiting a different country or place?
Y’all, island time is a real thing. When we honeymooned in the Virgin Islands, we asked our hotel front desk for advice on when to arrive at the airport. Our flight was at 7:00 a.m., but the airport website stated that they opened at 6:30 a.m. The front desk told us not to worry, they probably wouldn’t even be there by 7:00 and to just get there a couple minutes before our flight. We were shocked…and obviously didn’t listen. We got to the airport at 6:00 a.m. …and we waited…and waited…until 7:00 a.m. Needless to say, our flight was late and we missed our connecting flight in Miami! “Island time,” y’all.
Do you have any upcoming travel plans?
Oh my goodness, do I! :D I’ll be traveling to Baltimore, Dallas, and Vancouver all in September! We are also planning for me to join one of my husband’s business trips to Amsterdam for next year and we’ll spend next Christmas in California with my family!
What is your advice for all the women out there who want to starting living their passions whether that be blogging, styling, traveling, etc. but feel like they’re stuck?
Start focusing (or stay focused) on your passions and take every opportunity possible. The more you’re reaching into the world of blogging/styling/traveling, the more opportunities will come your way from that world. Effort and simply showing up can open so many doors for you.
What is your dream vacation – and what do you wear?!
I have always been in love with Spain. I studied Spanish in college (although I have lost most of my abilities) and I grew to admire the Spanish culture. My husband got the chance to visit Spain this year with his company and he has now promised to take me! :D I’ve already mentally planned the perfect colorful sun dress, hat, and strappy sandals!
How long does it take you to pack? Are you a backpacker or a complete matching luggage set kind of girl?
I try to pack slowly over the course of a week. I mentally plan outfits for the trip and slowly add them into my luggage. This gives me time to wash anything that I want to take with me that isn’t already clean.
How do you stay stylish while traveling?
Honestly, accessories are everything!!! Even a maxi dress or t-shirt dress can look stylish with a chunky necklace, a utility vest, and wedges or even just oxfords.
How would you describe your style? Do the places you travel to influence your style at all?
My style is chic yet comfortable. My main wardrobe is definitely comfortable, but I use accessories to take my comfortable pieces to the next level. I think some of the cities I’ve traveled to have definitely influenced my style. My husband and I found such a unique connection to the style in the Northeast (we traveled to Baltimore) and we continue to try to find pieces that embody their style!
What was your favorite vacation or trip? Why?
My favorite trips are always traveling home to California to visit my family! Not only have I become a pro at booking those flights and enjoying the airports, but I also land to open arms and warm hugs. No scenic beach or snow-capped mountain can beat that feeling.
(Seriously, can we all just say awwhhhh!! Family love! Jaclyn’s little one Owen is so adorable!)
