I am starting a new #wanderlustwednesday series on the blog! Each Wednesday I will show you that your vacations are not just fantasy – YOU CAN GO! Mark your calendar, stock up on Think Elysian Boutique vacation-wear, pack your bags, book your flight, and just GO! I will show you affordable places to stay all around the world, but this week I am starting off with the good ol’ US of A. Don’t have a passport? No prob. Afraid of flying over the pond? Don’t worry about it. Here are 10 beach summer destinations in America that have instagram-worthy sunsets, fluffy white sand, and best of all: as much privacy you desire. Whether you want to have a lively vacation in Myrtle Beach with the fam or to sip coffee alone and enjoy the sound of the waves kissing the shore in Cape Cod. There is something for everyone.
Where do I have my heart set? Orange Beach, Alabama! I’m sure you’ve heard by now how much I love Hart of Dixie. So. Cute. I. Die. I binge-watched the entire SERIES in like 3 weeks…. okay, 2 weeks.. But can you blame me? Wade Kinsella is the tv version of my hubby so I may have a little obsession with him, no big – just a small one. ha! My hubby is working 10+ hour days right now, I miss him. Anyhooo.. I LOVE their little town and although it may not technically exist I still feel like going to Alabama! Orange Beach would be so fun – it is so gorgeous! I’m not going to lie I don’t necessarily think of Alabama when I think “beach vacation”, but I was so ready to pack my bags when I got to looking at rentals in Orange Beach!
I absolutely love La Jolla, CA – we stumbled across it after our GPS took us the wrong San Diego Zoo. My parents came to visit us in Los Angeles and we wanted to have them fall in love with California like we did. Well about 5 hours later – between traffic and getting lost we gave up on the famous San Diego Zoo. BUT luckily the trip was not a lost cause. Looking on the map I spotted La Jolla. I will admit the only reason it sounded familiar at first was because of my junior high obsession with Hollister (I know, let’s not point fingers we know we all had an abercrombie/hollister phase). I specifically remember one of my shirts said “La Jolla, California” plastered across the chest. With a couple of clicks I googled it and redirected us to La Jolla Cove. When we arrived I was a little worried because we seemed to only see retirement homes, but I now understand why. I would totally retire there! La Jolla Cove was so gorgeous! I mean, even the grass was amazing – Caleb ended up taking his shoes off so that he could walk on it. :) We saw sea lions just hanging out on the beach and rocks and even a wedding performed on the cliffside. I can’t image the gorgeous photos that came of that wedding! Check out some of our iPhone photos and a video from our visit to La Jolla Cove:

Savannah, GA (Tybee Island North Beach)
$150 per night
From the Airbnb Host: “Our location on the island is absolutely the best for travellers looking for a slow-paced vacation and nature lovers. If you doubt this, let us simply say the highest paid actress in Hollywood could live any place in the world she likes, and has chosen our little strip of beach to call home. We don’t like to name-drop, but we think this is a pretty credible endorsement. We don’t know what she’s into (okay yes we do, but it’s none of our business) but we are obsessed with how great of a place this is for kayaking and dolphin watching (and watching dolphins from kayaks). Ask us, we will talk all day!
Our home is totally kid friendly, but not unromantic. If you are traveling as a couple, you can keep the bunk beds tucked behind the curtain and pretend they aren’t even there– we promise they won’t inspire uncomfortable talks about the pitter-patter of tiny feet. We even provide classy plastic* goblets, so you can drink wine on the beach *Swoon* (*Glass is strictly forbidden on the beach, the city imposes a $200 ticket if you’re caught with it)
We are located on Tybee Island’s North Beach, where the Savannah River meets the sea. Our beach is one of the island’s quietest and enjoys the distinction of being the one the dolphins like the best (dolphins know what’s good). We are away from Tybee’s main “strip” and we like it that way! Several great restaurants and destinations are less than four blocks away (including the ledgendary Huc-a-Poos and Latitude 32, Tybee Fish Camp, Gerald ‘s Pig and Shrimp, and the Tybee Wedding Chapel), so there is plenty to do on foot. It’s a simple kayak trip to Coco’s Grill, and anywhere else on Tybee is a short, easy bike ride away. Bikes, beachgear, kayaks and paddle boards can all be rented and delivered to you, the island is your oyster (Incidentally, you can also collect oysters on our beach, lucky you!)”
